Photo released of Princess Charlotte and her dog Orla to mark her seventh birthday

Princess Charlotte was pictured with her arm around the family cocker spaniel in a photo taken to mark her seventh birthday.

The young royal, surrounded by bluebells, was photographed by the Duchess of Cambridge in Norfolk this weekend outdoors.

Charlotte and her pet dog Orla appear in one of three photos released before the princess turned seven on Monday.

William and Kate’s middle child wears her long hair loose around her shoulders and sports a blue fine cable knit jumper that matches the color of the flowers surrounding her.

A white collar with dark polka dots completes the casual knit look.

In Orla’s photo, the dog – who has a shiny black coat – looks to her right as Charlotte smiles at the camera, holding flowers in her left hand.

In one of the other images, Charlotte is sitting cross-legged, while in the last image, she is sitting with her arms around her knees.

Orla is not the family’s first pet.

William and Kate’s former dog Lupo – a wedding present from Kate’s brother James – died in November 2020.

The couple announced Lupo’s death in a rare personal post on their Instagram account.

“(Lupo) has been the heart of our family for nine years and he will be sorely missed,” they said.

The Cambridge family spend much of their time away from London at their Norfolk home at Anmer Hall on the Queen’s Sandringham estate.

Kate is a keen amateur photographer and in 2017 she accepted Honorary Life Membership from the Royal Photographic Society, which recognized her “talent and enthusiasm”.

She regularly posts pictures of her children to mark important occasions like birthdays.

Last year, a photo of Charlotte looking happy and relaxed in a floral summer dress was posted to mark her sixth birthday.

On her fifth birthday, Charlotte was pictured helping her brothers and their parents load up a food van and deliver meals to those in need in Norfolk.

The full title of the birthday girl is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.

She was born at the Lindo Wing Private Maternity Hospital at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, central London, at 8.34am on May 2, 2015, weighing 8lbs 3oz.

Charlotte has been seen in public twice recently.

She was with her parents and brother Prince George at the Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on April 17.

On March 29, she was with her parents and George for the Duke of Edinburgh’s memorial service at Westminster Abbey in what was the Cambridge children’s first outing at a major religious event.
