ST. FRANCIS CO., Ark. – Wednesday’s storm brought destruction and grief to a couple in St. Francis County, Ark., when lightning struck their home in the community of Newcastle north of Forrest City.
Rebecca and Keith Price end up with a few boxes of personal effects. They are reminders of seven years in their home in St. Francis County, now reduced to a pile of burnt wood and ash.
Late Wednesday afternoon, lightning came from a powerful thunderstorm and struck the tin roof of the building.
“A very powerful lightning strike that actually went through the roof and hit the floor of the house,” Keith said. “Our neighbor next to us here said it was very loud and it lit up his whole back yard.”
He and Rebecca were at work when the fire broke out and rushed home to find they had lost “pretty much everything”, including their pet Chihuahua named Tilly.
“The dog was under the bathroom sink, trying to hide from the storm, like she always does,” Rebecca said.
Donations of food, clothing, money and gift cards are pouring in. The day after the fire, a temporary house on wheels was set up on their land.
The Prices aren’t sure if they’ll rebuild or just “start from scratch,” but they say they plan to go where God leads them. Their faith was strengthened by a Bible raised from the ashes, which Keith says is a sure sign that there is a blessing in everything.
“One of my bibles, it burned through the pages until it got to the ‘words’, and it stopped at the ‘words’,” Keith said. “Even a fire cannot even destroy the word of God.”
The Awards are grateful for the outpouring of support they’ve received from friends and complete strangers.
