Humane Society of Tahoe Truckee to donate pet emergency “take-out bags” | South of Lake Tahoe

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) ensures that pets are as prepared as anyone else for an emergency, especially at the start of wildfire season. A generous grant from the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation made it possible for HSTT to obtain pet “to-go bags” for emergency purposes, and there are still bags available in South Lake Tahoe and Truckee. The bags are meant to be pack-ready and will include almost everything your pet will need in the event of an emergency evacuation.

“We want our community members to be as prepared as possible to evacuate with their pets,” says Erin Ellis, HSTT’s Director of Community Engagement. “These bags will provide peace of mind to area pet owners knowing they have everything they will need to care for their pets right at their fingertips.”

The Humane Society offers bags for dogs and cats. Each community member can get one bag for free, but if residents have both cats and dogs, they can get one of each.

“We are honored to be able to support the efforts of the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe to provide emergency Go bags to people and pets in our area,” said Amy Zeifang, director of the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation. “The Duffields, who live in the local community, are long-time supporters of animal causes and appreciate the hard work and effort to help keep animals and people safe.”

Community members must show local ID from one of the following communities to receive a bag: Truckee, Sierra County, all communities surrounding Lake Tahoe including Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Incline Village and South Lake Tahoe (Zephyr Cove to Meyers), Homewood, Tahome, etc.

Bags will be available for pickup Thursday, July 7 at 10 a.m. It’s first-come, first-served while supplies last and will be distributed at the Truckee Shelter, 10961 Stevens Lane, and the South Lake Tahoe office, 3438 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
